Subject: new budget request news-appeal for help update

Dear Colleagues,

Thank to all of you who provided pledges to support the request for budget
information. "The public's right to information about government activities
lies at the heart of a democratic government." This is the opening statement
of the Maryland's Public Information Act Manual posted on the Maryland
Attorney General web site.

Transparency promotes accountability, and I had hoped that the Department
leadership, including the Chair, will spearhead the effort to provide the
faculty with budget information. I am sorry to report that this did not
happened.

It becomes clear that participation of a wider audience is needed to
provide the Department with budget information in a timely manner. I am
happy to report that the first pledge coming outside of the Department
already has been received.
