Already for a number of years we use Stanley Farlow's textbook for MATH225. The book is full of errors, and this causes a lot of confusion for the students. An Amazon's customer review claims there are 11 errors just in the first 100 pages. Rouben maintains a list of errors detected by different people (faculty, students, etc.). I counted 23 errors in pages from 1 to 86 listed on Rouben's web page (some pages contain multiple errors, for example p. 43 comes with 3 errors).
At the September 11, 2012 undergraduate committee meeting the issue was brought up. As was reported by Matthias at the December 4, 2012 faculty meeting the textbook issue has been discussed by unspecified members of the Undergraduate Committee, and those members expressed no interest in changing the textbook.
I hope we can come up with a better textbook for Math 225 students, and you are invited to state your position on the issue.
