Workload Policy Committee Minutes April 25, 2013, 3:00 pm Present: Draganescu, Kogan, Malinovsky, Neerchal Dr. Neerchal shared with the committee the following items: 1. Lecturers' teaching load is 3 (usually large) classes per semester. This teaching load information is spelled out in their contracts, and the contracts are not in public domain. 2. The Fall 2012-Spring 2013 "No Name" spreadsheet with # of credits/course unit taught provided by the Chair to the committee is not accurate. The spreadsheet is not in Dr. Neerchal's custody. 3. In terms of course units/yr we need to have 5 (rather than 5.5) course units/yr per research faculty. 4. Dr. Neerchal brought up an important issue of FTE, and he will provide the committee with explanations concerning this issue at a future time. 5. There are additional faculty activity items that are currently under reported (for example: academic advising, research advising, senior thesis supervising, etc.). Dr. Neerchal encouraged the committee to consider incorporation of those and similar items in workload reporting mechanism. 6. To streamline the "questions and answers" session and to provide for efficient meeting time management Dr. Neerchal would appreciate to have committee's questions in writing ahead of a meeting. 7. In response to committee request Dr. Neerchal graciously expressed willingness to meet with the committee again before the end of the semester. The committee is currently documenting faculty activities pertaining to research (Draganescu), teaching (Malinovsky), and service (Kogan). The initial results are expected by May 2, 2013 (within one week of the meeting).
